A nutritious meal is only the start of the value our Meals on Wheels program delivers to keep you healthy and home. The daily visit from our friendly volunteers means you or your loved one are ensured a well-being check, a ready-to-eat meal, and get to live at home longer. A county social worker also comes out to see what other resources you need!

If you are 60 years old and better;

And if you are predominantly homebound (under normal circumstances you cannot leave your home unassisted)

And if you live in the Dexter Schools District or in Scio Farms.

It is catered by Elite Catering and includes a hot meaty entre, a starch, fruit, vegetables, and often a salad as well as 8 oz of 2% milk.

A second cold meal is available to you at the same time to enjoy later in the day and frozen meals are available for weekends and holidays.

Ensure Plus is available for $20/case with a doctor’s prescription.  Chocolate and Vanilla are typically available.

Meals are a suggested $3 donation but this is not required. DSC receives partial reimbursement from Washtenaw County, so any amount our participants provide helps keep this program going.

You’ll receive a monthly statement detailing the number of meals received and the suggested donation – please only donate what you are able. You can mail it in or give it to your friendly volunteer.

Call Dexter Senior Center at (734) 253-2370. We serve meals Monday-Friday. While we usually require you reserve your meal 48 hours in advance, sometimes we have extra that day we’d love to share with you.

You can receive meals up to five days a week, Monday through Friday.

Your meal is delivered around lunchtime.

We need to “see a face and hear a voice” in order to leave your meal. If you are not answering the door, we will call your emergency contact to see if you left for an appointment or if you might be in trouble.

You can cancel your meal if you are not going to be home.  We cannot leave it at your door if you are not home.

A county social worker will come out to visit you after you start receiving meals to see if there are any additional needs that we can help you address.

All of our volunteers pass a background check.
